Quotes

I am late getting this blogging assignment due to a sudden death in my family. I am sorry for getting behind.

I really enjoyed listening to Sandy in the video so I chose a quote that she said.

"We as professionals in the early childhood field have an opportunity to shape a child's life for the better." Sandy Escobido

quotes

I have always been interested in the Montessori learning environment but I have never been to see how it is actually done so I chose Maria Montessori as one of my scholars.

Education demands, then, only this: the utilization of the inner powers of the child for his own instruction.     -    Maria Montessori

The ancient saying, "There is nothing in the intellect which was not first in
some way in the senses", and senses being explorers of the world, opens
the way to knowledge, says Maria Montessori.

Jean Piaget is very interesting.-
“Knowledge, then, is a system of transformations that become progressively adequate.”

“During the earliest stages the child perceives things like a solipsist who is unaware of himself as subject and is familiar only with his own actions.”

Personal Childhood Web

The first person in my web is my dad. He always supported me when I was a child. My parents went through a bad divorce and I am the only one of my siblings that has a relationship with him. He is very special to me and I talk to him daily. He is a teacher as well so we connect on a teacher teacher level.

The next person in my web is my mom. She has always been someone that I can count on throughout my life. She has supported me through my bad decisions and good decisions. She always made me feel safe when I was young.

The next person in my web is my sister. We have always been close and did a lot of things together when we were younger. I have many memories with her that include family vacations and sport activities. We both recently got married so we got to share being each others maid of honor. She is also changed her major from nursing to teaching so we get to talk about teaching together.

The next person in my web is my mamaw. She is no longer with us but she was my rock when I was little. I always stayed the night with her and loved swimming in her backyard. I always remember that she always had ice cream in her freezer and soda in her garage. I could go on and on about memories that I made with her. I know that she is looking down from heaven and smiling.

Another person in my web is my papaw. I always used to go grocery shopping with him because I got whatever I wanted. I remember when I was little and I stayed at his house on school nights, he would also drive through and get us breakfast before school. The best memory I have with him is when he went to the beach with my family. He wore jeans to the beach and rolled up his pants so that he wouldn't get sand in them. I remember being so embarrassed because he was walking on the beach with jeans rolled up with sandals with socks!

Picture

As a first year teacher, I do not have any drawings so this is the picture that I have chosen. I love this picture because this is an example of a early childhood drawing. No matter what their pictures look like, they are so proud of the creation they have done and that is why I love children.

About Me

My favorite quote is "Any job with doing, is worth doing right". My mother always told me this quote growing up and now that I am grown, I have come to appreciate it. This quote is going to be my classroom quote for my first year teaching. My favorite children book is Where the Red Fern Grows. I am also thinking about having this book be my first read aloud in class.

When I was completing tutor for an assignment in a college class I meet Jake. Jake was a child that had been passed from teacher to teacher because no one took the time to help this child. I was suppose to be tutoring a child for reading and Jake was assigned to me but he had no trouble reading. I spoke with the classroom teacher and she told me that she could not teach with him in the class because he was a problem. I was so mad at what I heard and was determined to help this child. After teaching a few sessions, I realized that Jake could not do any paper/pencil activities but was very smart. I created numerous hands on activities. I formed a special bond with Jake.
